阿根廷6岁男童"变性"成功 女性身份获政府认同（图）

A SIX-YEAR-OLD child has officially changed her gender in a landmark case passed by Argentinian law.

Born a boy, Manuel Mancilla has been dressing as a girl and calling herself Luana since she was four.

It is believed to be the world’s first case of a child being granted the power to choose its own gender.

Luana’s mum Gabriela said she was glad the Buenos Aires authorities allowed the change.

She said: “The authorities trusted the identity of my daughter and respected her rights”.

Gabriela also claims the child, who has a twin brother, had referred to herself as a girl ever since she learned to talk.

Under the new gender identity law in Argentina, individuals can choose their own preferred gender without needing the approval of doctors or lawyers.

The child’s first attempt to change her gender was refused because of her age.

But the ban was later overturned because international human rights say she is entitled to choose.
